Annavaram Prasadam is a sacred offering prepared at the famous Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple in Annavaram, Andhra Pradesh. This prasadam, known for its divine taste and simplicity, is made from broken wheat (rava), sugar, and ghee, and is offered to Lord Satyanarayana during special pujas, including the Satyanarayana Vratam. As Janmashtami approaches, making Annavaram Prasadam is a wonderful way to honor Lord Krishna.

Ingredients

– 1 cup broken wheat (rava) – 1 cup sugar – 2 cups water – 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter) – 10-12 cashew nuts – 10-12 raisins – 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder

Step 1

Heat a heavy-bottomed pan on medium flame. Add the broken wheat (rava) and dry roast it until it turns golden brown and emits a pleasant aroma. Stir continuously to ensure even roasting and to avoid burning. Once done, set it aside.

Step 2

In the same pan, add 2 cups of water and 1 cup of sugar. Stir the mixture and bring it to a boil until the sugar dissolves completely. Allow the syrup to simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened

Step 3

Gradually add the roasted rava to the boiling sugar syrup, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Lower the heat and let the mixture cook, allowing the rava to absorb the syrup fully. This should take about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

In a separate small pan, heat the ghee. Add the cashew nuts and fry them until they are golden brown. Then add the raisins and fry until they puff up. Pour this ghee along with the fried cashews,  raisins and cardamom powder

Step 5

Allow the prasadam to cook for a few more minutes on low heat, ensuring all the flavors meld together. The final texture should be slightly moist but not too sticky. Once done, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
