Karam festival honours the forests and bountiful harvest after the monsoon season in August or September. The tribes of Jharkhand are very connected to the forest and harvest, making the festival one of the biggest celebrations in Jharkhand. Try the taste of the festival with the tribal pitha recipe!
1 cup rice flour 1/2 cup grated coconut 1/4 cup jaggery, grated 1/4 cup water 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon ghee 1/4 cup chopped almonds or pistachios
Combine rice flour, grated coconut, jaggery, and cardamom powder. Add water and ghee to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
Take small portions of the dough and shape them into round or oval patties.
Cook the pithas on both sides until golden brown and slightly crisp.
Serve the hot pithas with chopped almonds or pistachios.
