Try Ilish Bhapa: Monsoon Magic In A Dish

One of the most popular fish varieties, hilsa or ilish is a delicious, fragrant and versatile fish. With its interesting flavour profile and oily texture, hilsa fish is perfect for both braising and frying. Enjoy this delightful dish with steamed rice.

Ingredients

250 grams Ilish machh 40 grams Mustard seeds 8 Green chillies 40 grams Coconut (peeled) 25 grams Yoghurt (beaten) 22 grams Salt 1/4 tsp Sugar 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder 20 grams Mustard oil

Step 1

Cut and wash the fish thoroughly. Prepare a paste of mustard seeds with green chillies, salt, and water; blend with coconut.

Step 2

In a steel tiffin box, mix the mustard paste, yoghurt, sugar, and mustard oil.

Step 3

Coat the fish well with the mixture, add green chillies, and seal the box; let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 4

Heat water in a pan, place a stand at the bottom, and set the tiffin box on the stand. Cover the pan and steam the fish for 15 minutes.

Step 5

Enjoy your delicious and aromatic Ilish Bhapa with steamed rice for a perfect monsoon meal.
