Traditional South Indian Panakam Drink To Stay Cool This Summer

Panakam, a traditional beverage from South India that is known for its cooling properties, is an integral component of many celebrations. Panakam is a dish that is made using simple ingredients such as jaggery, lemon juice, and spices. It provides a reviving explosion of flavours that is ideal for combating the heat of summer. 

Ingredients 

½ cup jaggery, chopped 2 cups water ¼ teaspoon dry ginger powder ⅛ teaspoon black pepper powder ⅓ to ½ teaspoon green cardamom powder 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 pinch salt 1 pinch edible camphor (optional) 4 to 5 tulsi (holy basil leaves), optional 3 to 4 ice cubes, optional 

Step 1  

Dissolve chopped jaggery in water and let it soak for 30 to 40 minutes. Strain the jaggery syrup to remove impurities. 

Step 2

Add lemon juice, ginger powder, black pepper powder, cardamom powder, salt, and optional edible camphor. Mix well and serve chilled with ice cubes or refrigerate before serving. Optionally, add tulsi leaves for extra freshness.
