With the scorching summer beating down, Bengali households cherish the season with a quintessential refreshment, that is, Aam Pora Sharbat. This traditional drink is made from raw mangoes, and epitomises the essence of summer in Bengal. This is a fusion of tangy, sweet and smoky flavours, offering a revitalising escape from the heat. Take a look at the recipe here.
2 large raw mangoes 4-5 tablespoon Sugar 1 tsp of Roasted cumin powder ½ tsp Black salt Ice cubes for serving 2 cups of Water
Roast the raw mangoes directly over a flame until the skin is charred and the pulp is soft. Let them cool. Once cooled, peel the mangoes and collect the pulp in a bowl.
In a blender, add the mango pulp, sugar, roasted cumin powder, black salt, and water. Blend until smooth and well combined.
For a smoother texture, strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove any fibres or coarse particles.
Pour the sharbat into glasses filled with ice cubes. Garnish with a sprinkle of roasted cumin powder for an extra burst of flavour.
Serve chilled and enjoy the tropical goodness of Bengal's Aam Pora Sharbat.
