Chopping onions might seem like the biggest chore in the whole world, but it certainly is a necessity whether you are making Indian food or European, snacks or full meals. Here are some pro tips you should keep in mind while cutting onions.
Having a sharp knife handy not only makes chopping onions cleaner and faster but also helps in reducing tears.
Start by cutting off the root end then slice it in half and remove the outer layers before proceeding with your cuts.
To ensure stability place the side of the onion, on the cutting board before you start slicing.
Slice vertically from the cut end towards the root without going all the way. Save cutting off the root for last to minimize tearing up.
For a dice make horizontal cuts parallel to the cutting board without reaching all the way to the root after making your vertical slices.
To avoid tearing up while chopping onions consider chilling them or soaking them in water to prevent triggering your ducts.
Consistent practice is key, to improving your speed and accuracy in onion cutting so keep at it for results.
