Made with tomatoes, coconut paste, jaggery and spices, this tangy and warm soup can warm your soul during the chilly winter. Here is an easy recipe to make tomato saar.

5 ripe tomatoes chopped, 1 cup coconut scraped, 6 cloves of garlic, 1 tsp cumin seeds, salt to taste, ½ tsp red chilli powder, 2 tbsp ghee, 1 tsp mustard seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, 8-10 curry leaves, 3-4 green chillies, 2-3 sugar, ¼ cup fresh coriander leaves chopped

Firstly, grind coconut, garlic cloves and cumin seeds into a fine paste. Further, mix salt and chilli powder to tomatoes.

Transfer the tomatoes into a small pan and add 3 cups of water. Bring it to a boil. Simmer on low heat for 15 min and puree when cooled.

Heat ghee in another pan and sputter mustard seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves in it. Then add the tomatoes, green chillies and bring it to a boil.

Stir in sugar, coconut and spice paste. Cook on low flame for 15 minutes. Switch off the heat and serve hot with coriander leaves.
