Also called bean curd, tofu is prepared by coagulating soy milk. It is pressed, made into curd and further into solid white blocks of tofu.
It has a subtle flavour, so it can be used in savoury and sweet dishes. Due to its spongy texture, it absorbs all flavours well.
tofu is low in calories, while being protein rich at the same time. It is high in iron, calcium and magnesium content too.
Tofu can be stir-fried, grilled, made into salad, enjoyed with soy sauce or made into nuggets too.
For Indians who want to avoid dairy, tofu works just as well. It has a very similar texture to paneer and can be made into gravy dishes.
