Gluehwein (also spelled Glühwein) is a hot spiced wine infused with orange that's found in many winter markets in Germany and Austria. It is the perfect drink for the holiday season!
Ingredients
1 orange untreated organic (washed, dried and cut into slices)10 cloves1 vanilla bean or extract3.75 cup red wine1 cup water1 cinnamon stick1 star aniseA pinch of nutmeg
Poke cloves into orange slices to prevent the spices to fall into the mulled wine. Slice the vanilla bean lengthwise and scratch out, and collect the vanilla bean seeds.
Pour wine into a saucepan with the water and heat up gradually.
Place orange slices with cloves into the pan. Add the vanilla bean with scratched out seeds, cinnamon stick, anise and nutmeg.
Take out all the spices and orange slices. You can strain the mulled wine too if you don't want the fruit pulp in it.
Make sure your mulled wine is kept on a steady heat. Sweeten your gluhwein to your liking and serve hot.
