Celebrated as the year of rabbit, the Chinese New Year is enjoyed with certain foods that are symbolic of good luck and fortune. 

Dumplings 

The steamed dough wrapped with a minced meat and veggie filling is a symbol of wealth and prosperity. The more you eat them, the better your new year will be. 

Fish 

Interestingly, different fish mean different things but overall, the word for fish in Chinese is a term for surplus and eating this sea creature is a sign of attracting just that. 

Longevity Noodles 

The long strands of uncut noodles served on new year in Chinese homes is symbolic of the long life of the eaters. They can be fried or served in a broth. 

New Year Cake 

A special sticky rice cake, made with chestnuts, Chinese dates, sugar and lotus leaves signifies greater income or a higher position in work and in general life. 

Sweet Rice Balls 

The small and delicious rice balls are harbingers of togetherness and familial bonding. These are known as tangyuan, which means reunion.
