If you want something simple and classic this festive season, try a besan badam halwa! The rich, aromatic dessert captures the essence of Indian festivals. Made with gram flour (besan), almonds, and ghee, this halwa is a treat that symbolizes warmth and celebration. Its nutty flavors and smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture make it a special addition to festive spreads. Here's an easy recipe you can follow!

Ingredients

– 1 cup besan (gram flour) – 1/2 cup almonds, ground (badam) – 1/2 cup ghee – 3/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste) – 2 cups milk (or water, for a lighter version) – 1/2 tsp cardamom powder – A few saffron strands (optional) – Chopped almonds and pistachios for garnish

Step 1

Soak almonds in hot water for 10–15 minutes. Peel and grind them into a coarse paste or powder, depending on your preference. Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan.

Step 2

Add the besan and roast on low heat, stirring continuously. Cook until it turns golden brown and releases a nutty aroma (about 10–12 minutes).

Step 3

Add the ground almonds to the besan mixture, stirring well. Pour in the milk gradually, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to cook on low to medium heat. Add sugar and mix until it dissolves completely. Keep stirring as the halwa thickens.

Step 4

Sprinkle in the cardamom powder and saffron strands (if using) for added fragrance. Stir well for an even distribution. Once the halwa reaches a thick, smooth consistency, turn off the heat.

Step 5

Garnish with chopped almonds and pistachios. Serve warm and enjoy the festive flavor!
