Tucking into soft, warm steamed momos, especially on a winter evening can be soul-satisfying. Their soft outer layer encases flavourful fillings, making them a perfect snack for chilly evenings. Paired with spicy chutney, or a simple broth and they’re a treat that’s hard to resist.
1 cup all-purpose flour (maida) Water A pinch of salt 1 cup chopped cabbage 1/2 cup grated carrots 1/2 cup chopped capsicum 1/4 cup chopped onions 1/4 cup chopped spring onions sauce
2 cloves garlic 1 tsp grated ginger 1/2 tsp soy sauce 1/2 tsp vinegar Salt and pepper 2 tbsp oil
Combine flour and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Gradually add water and knead into a smooth, firm dough. Cover and set aside for 20-30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan. Sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant. Add onions and cook until translucent.
Stir in cabbage, carrots, and capsicum. Sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add soy sauce, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes. Allow the mixture to cool.
Roll small portions of dough into thin circles. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle.
Fold and pleat the edges to seal the momos. Steam the momos in a steamer for 10-12 minutes until the dough turns translucent.
Serve hot with spicy chutney or dipping sauce.
