Cooking pasta to perfection can be tricky, but achieving the ideal al dente texture is simpler than you think. Follow these easy steps to ensure your pasta remains firm and delicious every time. 

Use Plenty of Water 

Boil pasta in a large pot of salted water to prevent sticking. 

Follow the Timing 

Cook pasta 1-2 minutes less than the package instructions for a firm bite. 

Taste Test 

Check the texture 1 minute before draining—pasta should be slightly firm to the bite. 

Save the Pasta Water 

Save some starchy cooking water to adjust the sauce consistency. 

Shock in Cold Water 

Rinse under cold water if you’re serving later, then reheat briefly in sauce.
