The Goan Kuswar: 5 Sweets You Need To Try

By Shireen Jamooji

The Kuswar is a platter of sweets exchanged between friends and families around Christmas.  It's an age-old tradition in Christian communities around India and symbolises the spirit of sharing and giving.  There can be more than 22 different items in a Kuswar, but let's check out some of the favourites.

Guava Cheese

Made from Guava pulp and sugar, this jelly - also known as Perad - is a must have.

Bebinca

This multilayered dessert with flour, sugar, coconut milk and ghee is  an iconic Goan symbol.

Baath Cake

Coconut, cardamom and currants with a pastry lattice on top, this moist crumbly cake is another Kuswar staple.

Goan Milk Creams

Somewhere between marzipan and kaju katli, milk creams are made with milk, sugar and cashew powder.
