Experience the zesty and aromatic flavors of Puliyogare, a traditional South Indian tamarind rice dish that brings a burst of tanginess and spice to your lunchtime.
1 cup cooked rice 2 tbsp tamarind paste 1 tbsp jaggery or sugar 2 tbsp oil 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp chana dal (split chickpeas) 1 tsp urad dal (split black gram) 1 tbsp peanuts 4-5 curry leaves 2 dry red chilies 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp red chili powder Salt to taste
For Puliyogare Masala 2 tbsp coriander seeds 1 tbsp chana dal 1 tbsp urad dal 2 dry red chilies 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds 1/4 tsp asafoetida 1/4 tsp black peppercorns 1/4 tsp sesame seeds
Dry roast all the Puliyogare masala ingredients until fragrant. Allow them to cool and then grind.
Now Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Now add chana dal, urad dal, peanuts and curry leaves.
Add dry red chilies, tamarind paste, jaggery, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan.
Now Mix well and cook. Add the ground Puliyogare masala powder and mix it into the tamarind mixture.
Add the cooked rice to the pan and gently mix to coat it well. Cover and cook.
Once done, remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy this tasty dish!
