Tangy And Sweet Imli Chutney You Can Make At Home

Imli chutney is a tangy and sweet condiment in Indian cuisine, perfect to drizzle over snacks like samosas, chaats and pakoras. Its sour and sweet balance is a must-have in every meal. Here’s how you can make it at home.

Ingredients

100g imli (tamarind) 1 cup warm water ½ cup jaggery, grated 1 teaspoon cumin seeds ½ teaspoon red chilli powder ½ teaspoon black salt ½ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon dry ginger powder

Step 1

Soak tamarind in warm water for 20 minutes, then mash and strain the pulp, discard the seeds and fibres.

Step 2

In a pan, add the tamarind pulp and bring it to a boil.

Step 3

Add the grated jaggery and let it dissolve. Simmer for 5-7 minutes till it thickens slightly.

Step 4

Add cumin powder, red chilli powder, black salt, and dry ginger powder. Mix well.

Step 5

Simmer for another 5 minutes till it becomes thick and sauce-like.

Step 6

Remove from heat, let it cool and store the chutney in an airtight container.
