Made with tangy tamarind and a variety of spices, this South Indian delight is perfect for winter season. Here is an easy recipe to make it at home.

A small piece of tamarind, salt to taste, ½ tsp sugar, 2 cups water for seasoning: 1 tsp ghee, ½ tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp cumin seeds, ½ tsp toor dal, ½ tsp urad dal, a pinch asafoetida, 3 dry red chilli, curry leaves

Soak tamarind in water for 15 mins. Strain the water and keep it aside.

Heat ghee in a pan, fry all the seasoning ingredients for a minute.

Add tamarind water along with salt, sugar and bring it to a boil.

Once boiled, turn off the heat and serve with rice.
