Plums are in season and plum chutney is a delicious and versatile condiment that pairs well with a variety of dishes. Spread it on sandwiches, wraps, or burgers for a sweet and tangy kick or serve it alongside fried snacks such as pakodas and samosas. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a month.

Ingredients

450 gms ripe plums 1 onion 200 grams brown sugar ½ cup apple cider vinegar 1 tsp grated ginger 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp ground cumin ½ tsp ground cinnamon

Ingredients

¼ tsp ground cloves ¼ tsp ground allspice 1-2 cloves garlic 1-2 fresh red chilies 1 tsp salt

Step 1

Wash the plums thoroughly, cut them in half, and remove the pits. Chop the plums into small pieces.

Step 2

In a heavy-bottomed pot, combine the chopped plums, onion, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, grated ginger, mustard seeds, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground allspice, minced garlic, chopped chilies and salt.

Step 3

Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally. Then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, till the fruit is soft.

Step 4

Once the chutney has reached the desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.

Step 5

Transfer it to a jar while it is still warm. Seal the jars and let them cool completely before storing.
