Surya Grahan 2022: What To Eat During A Solar Eclipse

By Shireen Jamooji

On 25th October, 2022, India will see a partial Solar Eclipse from around 4:30 pm onwards. During Surya Grahan, ancient texts outline specific eating habits that should be followed for good health. Here are some eating dos and don’ts for today.

Food for the day should be taken with Tulsi leaves to counteract the effects of UV radiation.

Many people avoid eating or drinking anything including water during this period because of the changes in UV radiation.

Even cooking things for later is considered dangerous since microorganisms are thought to flourish at this time.

According to the Skanda Purana even eating pre-cooked food and stored food will invite bad health.

Two hours prior to the eclipse a light, easy-to-digest meal can be taken.
