NASA astronaut Sunita Williams is facing significant bone density loss during her extended mission on the ISS. To maintain astronaut health, NASA provides specially designed space foods in various categories.
These include soups and casseroles. Water is removed before launch to save weight and is rehydrated with water on the ISS, ensuring nutritious meals in space.
Heat-processed items like fruits, fish, and main dishes are packaged safely. These foods, such as beef with mushrooms, are eaten after heating.
Ready-to-eat meats like chicken and beef are packaged in flexible pouches, requiring only warming before consumption.
These include nuts, granola bars, and cookies, providing quick, convenient nutrition in flexible pouches.
