The fresh dairy product, which is a vegetarian staple in Indian homes, can be enjoyed in a variety of dishes like curries, stews and fillings. Preserving the freshness of paneer can prolong its shelf life, allowing you to use it for longer and across a varied number of applications.
Transfer the paneer from its original packaging to an airtight container to prevent the paneer from absorbing other odours in the fridge and reduce moisture loss.
Before storing paneer, wrap it in a paper towel to absorb excess moisture which can lead to spoilage or the growth of mold.
Place the airtight container of paneer in the coldest part of your refrigerator, usually the back of the bottom shelf.
Since paneer absorbs odours easily from other foods in the fridge, store it away from strong-smelling foods to prevent it from taking on unwanted flavours.
Paneer typically has a shelf life of about 1 to 2 weeks when stored properly; check it regularly for any signs of spoilage, like an off smell, slimy texture or mold growth.
If you don't plan to use the paneer within a week or two, consider freezing it for longer storage.
