Puliyogare or tamarind rice is a very popular rice dish in the Southern parts of the country. It is comfort served in a bowl. Here is a quick recipe to make it.
3 cups cooked rice 1 tsp chana dal 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp urad dal 2 tbsp peanuts crushed Curry leaves Coconut oil 4 tbsp puliyogare masala Salt as per taste
1 cup tamarind pulp 1 tsp mustard 2 dried red chillies A pinch heeng Turmeric 1/2 cup jaggery 1 tsp mustard oil Hot water
In a wok, add mustard oil and splutter the dals, red chilli, curry leaves and peanuts
Add the gojju. It can be made by mixing all the ingredients mentioned in the gojju slide. Cook this for 2 minutes.
Add the boiled rice and salt. Mix till the rice has soaked in the gojju's flavour.
Add some grated coconut and roasted peanuts. Remove from heat.
The puliyogare is ready. Serve with pappadum or some plain curd.
