Growing coriander in your kitchen is an easy task that will help you harvest fresh leaves and not spend a hefty amount on purchasing from the market, especially during monsoon when prices skyrocket. Here is a step-by-step guide for you.
Since seeds are encased in a husk, crush them slightly and soak in water for 12-24 hours.
Fill a pot with soil but leave 1-2 inches on the top. Make sure the soil is aerated and loose giving space for roots to grow and expand.
Take soaked seeds and sow them ¼ inches into the soil. Keep them a few inches apart from one another and cover with a thin layer of soil.
Plants cannot grow without water and sunlight. Add the optimum amount of water to keep the soil damp and expose it to sunlight for 4-6 hours a day.
You will witness seedlings sprouting within a week or two. Once they are 2 inches tall, remove weaker ones and let the others grow.
Add fertilisers to the soil every 2-3 weeks to promote the healthy growth of the coriander in your kitchen garden.
Once the plants are 6 inches tall, you can harvest them. Store the leaves at a cooler temperature to increase the shelf life.
