Dal Pitha is one of Jharkhand's most delicious traditional foods, a mixture of steam rice with a filling of spicy lentils served in a green chutney. Learn how to make this at home.
For the dough: 1 cup rice flour 1/2 cup urad dal flour 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 1/4 tsp red chilli powder Water to knead
For the filling: 1 cup urad dal 1 onion 2 cloves garlic 1 inch ginger 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 1/2 tsp coriander powder 1/4 tsp red chilli powder 1/2 tsp turmeric powder Salt to taste 1/2 cup water
Combine rice flour, urad dal flour, salt, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, water, and red chilli powder to knead a soft dough.
Grind the soaked urad dal into a fine paste and add onion, garlic, ginger, cumin powder, coriander powder, and red chilli powder. Cook for a few seconds.
Take rice dough and dal and layer it like a Swiss roll.
Steam the pithas for 15-20 minutes.
Serve the hot pithas with chutney.
