This recipe will guide you through creating a mouthwatering and crispy southern fried chicken, full of flavour and nostalgia. Enjoy this classic dish that is sure to bring a taste of the South to your table.
1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces 1 cup buttermilk 1 tsp salt 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp hot sauce 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tbsp salt 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp onion powder Vegetable oil, for frying
Mix buttermilk, salt, pepper, and hot sauce in a bowl. Soak chicken pieces in the mixture and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Remove chicken from the buttermilk mixture and coat each piece thoroughly with the flour mixture. Rest on a wire rack for 30 minutes.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or cast-iron pot to 175°C. Fry chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and cooked through.
Place fried chicken on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your favourite sides and sauces.
