Murukku is a popular South Indian savoury snack. The traditional murukku gets a makeover with the addition of ripe tomatoes, creating a crunchy treat that is perfect for any occasion. Indulge in the tantalising flavour of the tomato murukku by following the steps of the recipe:
2 cups Rice flour ½ cup besan (chickpea flour) ½ cup Tomato puree 1 tsp Red chilli powder A pinch of Asafoetida (hing) 1 tsp Cumin seeds 1 tsp Sesame seeds Salt to taste Oil for frying
In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, besan, red chilli powder, asafoetida, cumin seeds, sesame seeds, and salt.
Add tomato puree gradually and knead the mixture into a smooth dough. Adjust consistency by adding water if needed.
Meanwhile heat oil in a frying pan. Take a portion of the dough and place it in a murukku maker. Press the dough in a circular motion directly into the hot oil to form spiral shapes.
Fry the murukkus until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and drain excess oil on paper towels.
Tomato Murukku is ready to be served. Enjoy its crunchy goodness with a cup of hot tea or as a standalone snack.
