Moong dal idli is a delectable South Indian dish which is a healthier twist to the traditional idli recipe. This dish is made with moong dal which is not only nutritious but also easy to cook. To make this dish, take a look at the recipe here:
1 cup moong dal 1/2 cup rice 1/4 cup poha (flattened rice) 1/2 cup yoghurt Salt to taste 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (optional) Water as needed
Rinse the moong dal, rice, and poha separately under cold water. Soak them in water separately for at least 4-5 hours or overnight.
Drain the soaked moong dal, rice, and poha. Grind them together into a smooth batter. Add yoghurt while grinding for better fermentation.
The batter should be of pouring consistency, similar to regular idli batter. Add salt to taste and mix well.
Transfer the batter to a bowl and let it ferment for 6-8 hours or overnight. Fermentation time may vary depending on the climate.
Grease the idli moulds with oil. Add a pinch of baking soda to the batter and mix gently. Pour the batter into the moulds and steam for 10-12 minutes until the idlis are cooked through.
Once done, remove the idlis from the moulds using a spoon. Serve hot with coconut chutney, and sambar.
