Dal Vada is a delicious snack made from coarsely ground chana dal, spices, and herbs. With a crunchy outside and soft inside, this savoury snack pairs wonderfully with coconut chutney or sambar, making it a perfect treat for tea time.

Ingredients

1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram) 1 small onion 2 green chillies 1-inch ginger, grated 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves 1/4 tsp cumin seeds Salt Oil

Step 1

Rinse and soak the chana dal in water for 2-3 hours. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

Coarsely grind the soaked dal without adding water. Leave some dal partially whole for texture.

Step 3

Transfer the ground dal to a bowl. Add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well to combine.

Step 4

Wet your hands slightly, take a small portion of the mixture, and shape it into a flat, round patty.

Step 5

Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully slide the vadas into the oil. Fry in batches until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.

Step 6

Drain excess oil on paper towels and serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
