If any South Indian dish offers warmth and comfort, it is bonda soup. Urad dal fritters served with lip-smacking moong dal soup make for a delightful indulgence. Try this recipe.
For Dal Soup 3 slit green chillies A pinch of hing ¾ cup moong dal 2 tsp coconut, coriander leaves Salt to taste ½ tsp turmeric, chopped ginger 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp cumin, mustard seeds 1 chopped onion, tomato Water as needed
For Bonda 1 cup urad dal 2 tbsp coconut 1 chopped green chilli Oil for frying Salt to taste 1 sprig of curry leaves 1 tsp chopped ginger ½ tsp pepper 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Wash and soak urad dal. Blend it into a paste and add spices to it.
Whisk it to fill the mixture with air. Deep-fry small bondas.
Soak moong dal and cook it in a pressure cooker.
Heat kadhai and add mustard seeds, ginger, green chillies, cumin seeds, and tomatoes.
Add dal and spices. Cook it for 10 minutes at least. Pour water to adjust the consistency.
Pour soup in a deep bowl, add two bondas, and top the dish with chopped onion and coriander leaves.
