Upma is a classic South Indian breakfast option. Thanks to its versatility, you can make it with a wide range of ingredients. Murmura upma is made with puffed rice to get a light and quick breakfast or snack.
2 cups murmura 1 onion 1 tomato 1-2 green chillies 1/4 cup green peas 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 tablespoon oil 8-10 curry leaves 1 tablespoon lemon juice 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves Handful of roasted peanuts Salt to taste
Rinse the murmura and ensure it is moistened and not soaked. Drain and set aside.
Heat some oil and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them sizzle.
Add chopped onions and green chillies. Once golden brown, add the peas.
Mix in chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt. Cook till all vegetables are tender.
Add the moistened murmura and mix well. Mix a squeeze of lemon juice.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, curry leaves, and roasted peanuts. Serve hot.
