Easy and tasty no-onion no-garlic South Indian style tomato chutney made with fresh juicy tomatoes, and lentils. A perfect side for idli, dosa, chapati, parathas, and yoghurt rice! Here is how to make tomato chutney:
3 tomatoes 1 tsp cracked black pepper ½ tsp of black mustard seeds 1 tsp cumin seeds jeera 1 tbsp ghee A pinch of turmeric powder 4 tbsp of chopped fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) Salt to taste
Heat the ghee in a pan and then add the mustard seeds. Once they crackle, add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
Add the chopped tomatoes and mix well to combine. Let the tomatoes cook until it starts to soften, stirring now and then.
Add water to this and continue to cook on a low flame.
When tomatoes start turning mush, the skin separating from the flesh, add the turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
Then add the pepper powder and chopped coriander. Continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes until the chutney becomes thicker.
Once it is done, serve it with idli, dosa, chapati, parathas, and yoghurt rice.
