Sawan Somwar is a series of holy Mondays in the month of Shravan, which holds great importance in the Hindu religion. This often involves observing a fast with certain dietary restrictions. Here are some main foods you should avoid during the monsoon Mondays.
Onion and garlic are considered 'tamasik' foods in Ayurveda. They are believed to release heat and are usually avoided in Sawan.
Meat, fish, and eggs are strictly avoided to get closer to the sattvic diet during the month.
Rice, wheat, lentils, and other grains are usually replaced by alternatives like kuttu atta, singhara, and more.
Common salt is replaced with rock salt (sendha namak) during the Sawan Somwar fasts.
While fasting, you should avoid alcohol as it can hinder the concept of achieving a satvik diet.
Packaged food and market-bought snacks contain preservatives and additives. So, they are avoided while fasting.
