Sama Chawal ke Idli is a popular vrat dish during Sawan. Made with barnyard millet and without rice, it offers a gluten-free and nutritious option for those observing fasting traditions. Here is a simple recipe to make it.
1 cup Sama Chawal (Barnyard Millet) 1/4 cup Urad Dal (split black gram) 1/2 tsp Fenugreek Seeds (methi seeds) Salt to taste Water for soaking and grinding
Soak 1 cup Sama Chawal, 1/4 cup Urad Dal, and a pinch of fenugreek seeds for 4-6 hours. Grind Urad Dal and fenugreek seeds into a smooth batter.
Separately grind Sama Chawal into a slightly coarse batter. Mix both batters with salt and let it ferment for 6-8 hours.
Grease idli molds, pour batter, and steam for 10-12 mins. Enjoy soft and fluffy Sama Chawal ke Idli with sambar or chutney.
