Tomato Bhajiya is basically tomato pakora that has its origin from Surat. This Gujarati style snack is best paired with hot cup of chai and is perfect for evening snack. This snack is mainly found in stalls at Duman beach. This pakora is very unique and is made with tomatoes and topped with bright green chutney, coated with spicy chickpea flour and deep fried to perfection. Check out the recipe here:
6 medium Frying Green Tomatoes 2 tbsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper 2 tbsp Coarsely Ground Dry Coriander Seeds 3 tbsp Chaat Masala Oil to deep fry 1½ cup Chickpea Flour 1 tsp Carom Seeds/Ajwain 1 tsp Garam Masala 2 tsp Cumin Coriander Powder 1½ tsp Red Chili Powder 1½ tsp Salt ½ tsp Turmeric Powder water as needed to make thick batter ¼ tsp Baking Soda Green chutney
Make chickpea batter with chickpea flour, carom seeds, garam masala, cumin coriander powder, red chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder, baking soda and water.

Slice all tomatoes ¼ inches thick. Sprinkle chaat masala over each slice.

Spread green chutney over chaat masala layer and dip it in the chickpea batter.

Hold it on a flat spoon or any flat spatula, quickly sprinkle some ground black pepper and ground coriander seeds.

Heat oil in a pan for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, put the tomato slices into the oil. Fry it till glden brown.

Sprinkle some more chaat masala on the bhajiya and serve with green chutney.
