Also known as butter fruit, avocados have become a reigning breakfast staple for many of us. However, getting the perfect avocado can seem like a challenge most times – leaving one with a fruit that might be under or over-ripened.
Look for avocados that are firm but yield slightly to gentle pressure; avoid avocados with blemishes or overly soft spots.
Place unripe avocados in a paper bag with an apple or banana, since they release ethylene gas, which helps speed up the ripening process
Warmer temperatures help accelerate the ripening process; check the avocados daily to monitor their progress.
Check for ripeness by gently pressing the avocado near the stem - if it yields slightly, it's ripe and if it feels mushy, it's overripe.
Slow down the ripening process by transferring them to the refrigerator if you don't want to use your avocados immediately.
