Ribbon Pakoda: A Deep-Fried Crunchy Snack To Munch On

A popular South Indian snack made with gram flour and spices, ribbon pakoda is a delicious savoury snack to enjoy instead of store-bought, salt-loaded chips.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup gram flour 1.5 cups rice flour 1 teaspoon chilli powder 1 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 teaspoon crushed black pepper 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds 2 tablespoons hot oil 1 pinch asafoetida Salt, to taste Water, for kneading Oil, for deep frying

METHOD

Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl and pour hot oil over it to mix well.

Season with salt and add water little by little to knead into a firm but soft dough.

METHOD

Heat the oil in a pan while you divide the dough into two or three cylindrical lumps.

Place the line mould in a chakli maker and stuff it with the dough to squeeze into the hot oil.

METHOD

Use a pair of scissors to cut off the end and let it fry in the hot oil for 4-5 minutes, until it darkens in colour and turns crispy.

Flip it over and cook for another couple of minutes before cooling completely and storing in an air-tight container.
