The tangy, savoury sirke wali pyaz are easy to create at home and are a great way to spice up traditional recipes. Make this tasty condiment to complement your meals with just onions, vinegar, and seasoning.
20-30 pearl onions or shallots (peeled and cut in desired size) 1 cup water 5 to 7 tbsp cider or any other light coloured vinegar 2 pinches of salt; sugar (as per taste) Spices, if you wish (like black pepper, bay leaf and cinnamon)
The onions should be peeled and sliced before being placed in a nonreactive container.
Now, put your spices in a skillet with a cup of water. Allow them to simmer for a while. Mix in some salt and sugar (to taste) to some water. Toss in some vinegar.
Now, into the jar or dish containing the onions, pour the liquid. Cover the onions with liquid until it reaches a level about half an inch above the onions.
When left to soak for prolonged periods of time, the liquid takes on a darker hue. Let onions marinate for three to five hours. Your freshly prepared onions can now be enjoyed.
