Matar chaat is an delicious appetiser cum snack that is prepared with a mix of white peas, onions, tomatoes and flavourful spices. Make it at home with this simple recipe.

1 cup white peas (soaked), 1 ½ cups water, 1 cinnamon, 1 bay leaf, 1 inch ginger, 1 pinch of asafoetida, salt; spices: ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, red chili powder, 1 teaspoon garam masala, ½ teaspoon cumin powder, ½ teaspoon amchur; To garnish: 1 onion, tomato, cilantro, 2 tablespoon sev, 1 lemon juice, chaat masala sprinkle, 2 tablespoon pomegranate

Add the peas in a pressure cooker along with water, bay leaf, cinnamon, ginger, asafoetida and salt. Cook at medium heat until 5 whistles.

Once all the pressure is released open the lid. Sauté and continue cooking till ¾ of the water evaporate.

Add all the spice powders and mix well. Transfer the matar mixture in a bowl and add chopped onion, tomatoes, lemon juice and mix well.
