Moong Dal Halwa is the ultimate comfort food for winter. Its warmth and richness make it an ideal dessert to keep the body warm during the winter shiver. Make this decadent sweet at home with this simple recipe.

1 cup split yellow moong dal (yellow lentils) 1 cup sugar 1 cup ghee (clarified butter) 4 cups water 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder Chopped nuts for garnish (almonds, cashews, pistachios)

Soak the moong dal overnight for 4-5 hours. After soaking, drain the water completely.

Grind the soaked dal into a fine paste using very little water. Make sure no coarse grains are left.

In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat 2 tablespoons ghee then add the moong dal paste. Cook it on low flame while stirring continuously.

Keep stirring until it turns into a slightly golden shade and creates a nutty aroma. This can take up to 20-25 mins.

Meanwhile, in a separate pan, make sugar syrup by adding sugar to water. Stir it on medium flame until sugar dissolves.

Once moong dal paste turns brown, gradually mix sugar syrup in it while stirring continuously. Do this with a little caution.

Add the remaining ghee and stir continuously. Cook for a few minutes until halwa reaches a creamy consistency and leaves the sides of the pan.

Add cardamom powder and mix. Then, after a few minutes take it out of the pan.

Serve it on a plate and garnish with dry fruits.
