Solkadhi, also known as solkadi or kokum kadhi, is a traditional summer cooler in Goa. The beverage is an important part of Malvani, Konkan, and Goan cuisine. The drink is made using staple pantry ingredients and is highly refreshing on scorching summer days. Here's a recipe for you to try:
1 cup of coconut milk 8–10 dried kokum petals (or 2-3 teaspoons of kokum syrup) 1 green chilli, chopped 1 teaspoon grated ginger 2-3 cloves garlic, minced Salt to taste Water as needed Optional: tempering with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and vegetable oil
Soak kokum petals in 1 cup of warm water for 15-20 minutes. Strain and discard the petals.
Mix coconut milk, green chilli, ginger, garlic, salt, and strained kokum water.
Adjust consistency with water. Optionally, temper with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and oil. Pour this tempering over the solkadhi and mix well.
Refrigerate the solkadhi for at least an hour before serving to enhance its flavour. Serve chilled in glasses or small bowls as a refreshing drink.
