Rose sharbat is a traditional drink that is often associated with the holy months of Ramadan and Eid. The beverage is a fragrant mixture of many ingredients, is popular in India, the Middle East, and some South Asian countries too and is a perfect addition to your Iftar table. Here's a recipe for you to try:
1 cup fresh rose petals (make sure they are pesticide-free) 2 cups of water 1 cup of sugar 1-2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional, for added tanginess) A few drops of rose water (optional, for extra fragrance)
To make a fragrant drink infused with roses, boil rose petals in water to extract their essence.
Remove the petals from the mixture by straining them; clear, fragrant rose water will remain.
After adding the rose water and sugar, boil the liquid until it becomes somewhat syrupy.
You may also add a little sharpness from lemon juice and some more flowery notes by adding rose water to the syrup.
Before transferring, let the syrup cool to room temperature and be careful not to let it become too hot.
To preserve its freshness and flavour for later use in drinks and desserts, store the cooled syrup in a bottle in the refrigerator.
