After keeping day-long fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, Muslim devotees break their fast by eating a date. It is believed that Prophet Muhammed had stated that Ajwa dates grown in the Madinah are from paradise.  Along with Ajwa, let's learn about 12 types of dates to break yours fast during Ramadan.

Ajwa

This miracle date is a sacred staple. Black, rounded and curved, Ajwa dates come from Medina. It is advisable to start every day with Ajwa.

Barhi

Barhi dates are the smallest type of dates with a fresh, syrupy taste suitable for desserts. Eating just a Barhi date after a long day of fasting stimulates your taste buds.

Dayri

Dayri dates are unique because of their silky texture and delicate sweetness. It has a relatively oval shape. As the fruit ripens, the skin turns black from yellow.

Deglet-Noor

Deglet-Noor gets its name as the fruit's flesh turns a radiant yellow in exposure to the sun. It flaunts a subtle sweetness and nutty flavour. It is also called "Royal Dates".

Halawy

Halawy means "sweet", and these dates get their name as they contain a caramel-honey-like taste. The average Halawy is shorter and has lighter golden brown skin.

Khadrawy

Khadrawi dates are difficult to find, making them prized possessions. They have a tender and melt-in-the-mouth texture. It is often employed as a sweetener.

Medjool

Medjool or Medjul dates hail from the Medina of Saudi Arabia. Since the inception of Islam, Medjool dates have been integral to fasting Muslim's diet during Ramadan.

Mariami

These dates have a flavour reminiscent of chocolate and caramel. Flaunting a reddish hue and tender look, Mazafati dates are enriched with vitamins and fibre.

Rabbi

With its reddish-brown skin and supple, sugary flesh, Rabbi date is among the oldest and most delicious. These dates are delicious and can be eaten on their own.

Thoory

Despite their parched appearance, Thoory dates have a sweet taste. It has an oval shape and is a preferred date in baked products.

Zahidi

Zahidi dates are healthy as they ease gastrointestinal disorders like indigestion. This thumb-sized date has a smooth appearance and tastes quite sweet.
