Ramadan 2023: 10 Power-Packed Sehri Dishes To Devour

As Ramadan, the month-long fasting period of the Islamic community, has already begun, here are some ways to ensure that your sehri lends you all the energy you need through the day. 

Pheni

A rich and delightful crispy sweet meat picked off the streets of Old Delhi, pheni is made with semolina and dunked in milk before serving, adding to its richness. 

Fruit Salad 

Nothing can keep you more hydrated than a bowl full of fresh water-rich fruits. Include seasonal ones like watermelon, muskmelon etc. 

Ful Medammes 

This is an Egyptian delicacy made with fava beans and flavoured with garlic and lime juice. The stew is  light and easy on the stomach and super nutritious. 

Badam Sharbat 

Who doesn’t need a thick, refreshing and filling sharbat early in the morning. Drink this almond and caradamom flavoured beverage with your sehri food. 

Dates Barfi 

The importance of dates during Ramadan is no stranger to us and this barfi is sweetened naturally with dates. This sweet meat is healthy and nutritious. 

Oats Yoghurt  Parfait 

The cooling properties of yoghurt combined with the nutrients and filling properties of oats make for a yummy fruity parfait perfect for your pre-dawn meal. 

Egg Paratha 

If you need something more solid and filling, pack in proteins with carbs like this egg paratha. Cracked on a flatbread, the two are cooked together, rolled up and eaten. 

Egg Brik 

Another eggitarian dish that you can try is this Tunisian recipe where whole egg is cooked with onion and harissa and packed inside a thin, flaky triangular puff pastry. 

Dahi Kebabs 

The freshness of dahi aka curd, combined with the creaminess of paneer inside a shallow-fried kebab is what you’ve been looking for all this while. Add some anjeer for more flavour. 

Afghani Bolani 

This is an Afghani cousin of the Indian paratha, stuffed with potatoes, grated pumpkin or minced meat and fried before serving.
