In a fast-paced world where managing time is crucial, mastering the art of quick cooking hacks can prove to be a lifesaver. If you enjoy a bowl of creamy mashed potatoes but lack the time to boil them in a hot pot, you can do it in the microwave within minutes. Here is a quick way to boil them:
Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove all dirt or debris. Pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
Poke or pierce each potato several times with a fork or sharp knife. This step is crucial, as it allows steam to escape during cooking, preventing the potatoes from bursting.
Place the potatoes in a microwave-safe dish. Make sure they are not overcrowded. It is best to arrange them in a single layer.
Add enough water and salt to the dish. The moisture will help create steam, which will speed up the process.
Cover the dish with a lid or plastic wrap, leaving a small vent for steam to escape.
Cook the potatoes in the microwave for 5–7 minutes. Check the doneness by inserting a fork into the thickest part of a potato. It should slide in easily.
Once done, carefully remove the potatoes from the microwave and allow them to rest for some time. Your boiled potatoes are ready to be mashed, roasted, or enjoyed as desired.
