Ensuring your oil is at the right temperature is crucial for achieving perfect frying results. Here are five simple methods to check oil temperature, even without a thermometer.
Drop a small piece of bread into the oil. If it turns golden brown in about 60 seconds, your oil is ready.
Dip the end of a wooden spoon in the oil. If bubbles form around it, the oil is hot enough.
Add a kernel of popcorn to the oil. If it pops, the oil is at approximately 180°C, suitable for frying.
Sprinkle a pinch of flour into the oil. If it sizzles, the oil is hot and ready.
Drop a tiny bit of water into the oil. If it sizzles and evaporates quickly, the oil is at the correct temperature.
