Making whipped cream at home is simple and yields a deliciously fresh topping for desserts. With just a few ingredients and some basic steps, you can create light, fluffy whipped cream in minutes. 

Ingredients 

1 cup chilled heavy cream   2 tablespoons sugar (powdered or granulated) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) 

Step 1

Place your mixing bowl and whisk or beaters in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes. Cold equipment helps the cream whip faster and achieve a better texture. Pour the chilled heavy cream into the cold mixing bowl. Add the sugar and vanilla extract, if using. 

Step 2

Use a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium-high speed to whip the cream. Start slowly to avoid splashing, then increase the speed. Beat until the cream forms soft peaks. 

Step 3

Continue whipping until stiff peaks form, but be careful not to overbeat, as this can turn the cream into butter. Use the whipped cream right away or store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
