Besan chilla is a popular Indian savoury pancake made from gram flour (besan) and spices. It's nutritious, high in protein, and often includes vegetables like onions and tomatoes. Quick to prepare, it's a delicious snack or breakfast option, typically served with chutney or yoghurt.
1 cup besan 1/4 cup water 1 small onion 1-2 green chillies 1/4 cup tomatoes 1/4 cup coriander leaves 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp red chilli powder Salt Oil
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of besan, chopped onion, green chillies, tomatoes, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt.
Gradually add water to the mixture to form a smooth, pourable batter. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.
Heat a non-stick skillet or tawa over medium heat. Add a little oil or ghee to grease the surface.
Pour a ladleful of batter onto the skillet, spreading it gently into a round shape. Drizzle a little oil around the edges. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the underside is golden brown and the top is set.
Carefully flip the chilla and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until it turns golden brown and crispy.
Serve the Besan Chilla hot with green chutney, yoghurt, or your favourite sauce.
