Preparing Onam Sadhya At Home? Cook Kerala-style Olan Curry

Onam Sadhya features several dishes arranged in a specific order on a banana leaf. One of these dishes is olan curry boasting creamy texture. It is delicious as well as nutritious. If you are making Sadhya at home, here is the recipe you must try.

Ingredients

⅓ cup cowpeas 3-4 green chillies 8-10 curry leaves Salt to taste 300 grams of ash gourd 2-3 tbsp coconut oil 2-3 cups water 1 cup coconut milk

Step 1

Rinse and soak cowpeas overnight. Next morning, drain the excess water and pressure cook in fresh water with salt to taste.

Step 2

After 3-4 whistles, turn off the flame. Meanwhile, rinse and peel the ash gourd. Discard the seeds.

Step 3

Saute ash gourd, green chillies, and curry leaves in a pan. Add some water or coconut milk.

Step 4

Once the ash gourd is tender, add cowpeas and pour some more coconut milk. 

Step 5

Let the ingredients cook on a low flame but don’t let the mixture boil.

Step 6

After 5-8 minutes, top the curry with oil and extra curry leaves.
