Prepare Yeast At Home For All Your Baking Needs

Yeast is a leavening agent used commonly in baking; it’s known to give a good rise and texture to breads, including naans. Yeast is also employed in the preparation of desserts like jalebis. Although it is available in stores, you can make yeast at home with the following simple recipe.

Ingredients

1 cup maida or all-purpose flour ½ cup of lukewarm water 2 tablespoons of curd 2 teaspoons of sugar 1 teaspoon saunf powder

Method Step 1

Sieve the all-purpose flour and combine it thoroughly with the curd, sugar, and saunf powder.

Step 2

Pour water into the mixture to make the yeast batter; beat the resulting concoction for about 5 minutes till it is smooth and lump-free.

Step 3

Transfer the batter to a bowl or a container and seal the utensil properly.

Step 4

The batter will begin emitting bubbles within 18–24 hours, indicating that the yeast is ready. This batter can be refrigerated and used for about a week.
