Aloo Chaat, a popular Indian street food, combines crispy potatoes with tangy and spicy flavours. This easy-to-follow recipe will guide you to create a delightful and refreshing snack at home.
250 grams potatoes (2 large or 3 medium) 4 tbsp oil for shallow frying ¼ tsp black pepper powder ½ tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder ½ tsp roasted cumin powder ½ tsp dry mango powder (amchur) ½ tsp chaat masala powder Salt (black, pink, or white) to taste
1 tbsp finely chopped mint leaves 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves ½ tsp finely chopped green chillies (optional) 1 tbsp tamarind chutney (or to taste) 1-2 tsp lemon juice (or to taste) 1-2 tbsp pomegranate arils (for garnish, optional)
Rinse and peel the potatoes, then chop into small bite-sized cubes. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and add the potato cubes.
Fry the potatoes until they turn golden and crisp, stirring occasionally. Remove the potatoes with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels.
In a bowl, mix the fried potatoes with all the spices and herbs. Add tamarind chutney and lemon juice, then mix well.
Garnish with pomegranate arils and serve immediately.
